Students Gain Practical Experience on Educational Tour of Electrical Panel Building Factory

In May 2024, the Center of Excellence for Energy supported an educational field visit to Smart Industries’ electrical panel building factory for 20 students from the EPM336 Electrical Installations course within Ain Shams University’s Energy and Renewable Energy Program. The visit aimed to complement theoretical coursework and provide students with practical insights into industry practices and technologies in electrical installations and energy management.

Located in Egypt’s 10th of Ramadan Industrial City, the facility specializes in switchboard manufacturing and distribution transformers. The visit started with an introductory session detailing the company’s history and its role within the industry. This was followed by a facility tour, in which students learned about the processes and technologies involved in building low and medium-voltage panels.

Students observed live demonstrations of electrical installation techniques and energy management practices. An interactive Q&A session allowed participating students and faculty to engage directly with industry experts and gain a better understanding of real-world applications and operations.

Discussions were initiated with the organization’s leadership regarding potential future collaborations, with a focus on opportunities for student internships and other collaborative ventures. They expressed a strong interest in building a sustained relationship with the COE/E and being involved in its activities.

Seeing the panels being built from scratch after all our theory lessons was truly eye-opening and impactful. Learning about PF Correction within the Low Voltage Panel was a new and valuable experience. Also, the factory engineers and workers were incredibly eager to answer all our questions.
