Samy Afifi is an associate professor at Urban Planning Department for the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University. He is acting as the director for Teacher Support and Development Center at the Faculty. The activities committed to TSDC include doing research on the teaching and learning processes in different programs at the faculty. This encourages teachers to adopt new teaching technologies and strategies, along with providing support to include Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the curricula of different programs.

Afifi’s professional practice allows him to act, discuss, negotiate, and deal with a variety of people with different backgrounds and governmental organizations all over Egypt. His main interest is in tracing and analyzing dynamics during evolution of traditional and contemporary urban settlements.

Omar Mohamed El-Hosseiny Abdel Salam

Dean and Professor of Urban Design and Urban Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University

Omar Mohamed El-Hosseiny Abdel Salam has diverse professional experience encompassing academic, educational, administrative, leadership, consulting, and professional dimensions. In his academic and educational journey, he has advanced from a lecturer in the Department of Urban Planning to his current position as a Professor of Urban Design and Urban Planning, a role he has held since 2005. On the administrative and leadership front, he served as the Head of the Urban Planning Department from 2009 to 2015, later taking on the role of Director of the Credit Hour Program at the Faculty from 2015 to 2018, initially known as the “New Programs.” Subsequently, he assumed the position of Vice Dean for Environmental Affairs and Community Service from August 2018 to 2021. Prof. El Hosseiny has been serving as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering since February 2021. In terms of consulting and professional expertise, he is the founder of the Bureau Egyptien de Conseils Techniques (BECT) or the Egyptian Bureau of Technical Consulting, a role he has held since 1989.

Akram Abd El Latif

Akram Abd El Latif

Assistant Professor of Architecture, Department of Architecture, Ain Shams University.

Akram Abd El Latif is an assistant professor in the Department of Architecture at Ain Shams University. He boasts extensive professional studies and experience, including a Ph.D. in Architectural Engineering focusing on the integrative relationship between design, financing, and construction systems for housing projects for industrial center workers. Dr. Akram has held various positions, such as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Land Consult Engineering Consulting Office. He’s actively engaged in volunteer efforts, contributing to the development of urban plans and estates for cities, villages, and hamlets.

Amr Abdel Salam Shaat

Amr Shaat

Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University

Dr. Amr Shaat is an accomplished professional with a significant academic background, holding a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Queen’s University, Canada, where his research focused on the structural behavior of steel columns and steel-concrete composite girders retrofitted using CFRP. He also earned a Master of Science. from Ain Shams University, Egypt, and a Bachelor of Science with honors from the same institution. Dr. Shaat has a distinguished academic career, currently serving as a professor of steel structures and bridges at Ain Shams University and previously as an adjunct professor at the German University in Cairo. He has made substantial contributions to the field, with an extensive list of publications, including books on topics like sustainable infrastructure and smart cities. His affiliations range from Deputy Minister of Transport for the Egyptian Ministry of Transport to roles in various engineering committees and societies. Dr. Shaat has received several awards, including the Ahmed Moharam Award in Structural Engineering, and he maintains a high scholarly impact with a notable h-index based on citations in both Google Scholar and Scopus.

Ahmed El-Sabbagh

Ahmed El-Sabbagh

Ahmed El-Sabbagh is a highly accomplished materials engineer with expertise in polymer and aluminum composites. He holds licenses as a material inspector and for non-destructive testing. His work focuses on natural fiber polymer composites, thermo-mechanical processing, and various aspects of materials engineering. Dr. Ahmed has a robust educational background and has held significant positions at Ain Shams University, including Vice Dean for Education & Student Affairs. He has been involved in numerous industrial and academic projects, has a strong publication record, and is a member of various committees and societies in the field. His contributions have earned him recognition, including being listed as one of the top 2% scientists by Stanford University.

Mostafa Marei

Professor Mostafa I. Marei has been a professor in the Department of Electrical Power and Machines at Ain Shams University since 2006 with a focus on energy and power systems. Over the past 25 years, Professor Marei has held several key positions at Ain Shams University, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport, and the University of Waterloo. He received his BSc (Hons) and MSc degrees in electrical engineering from Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, in 1997 and 2000 respectively, and his PhD degree in electrical and computer engineering with a focus on control algorithms for inverter-based custom power conditioners from the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, in 2004. From 2004 to 2006, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Waterloo. His research interests include power electronics, distributed and renewable generation, microgrids, power quality, electrical drives, and artificial intelligence applications in power systems. Professor Marei has published more than 160 journal and conference papers and has supervised 17 PhD dissertations and 46 MSc theses. He is a holder of the State Incentive Award in Engineering Sciences from the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology. Professor Marei is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). His biography is listed in the Marquis Who’s Who in the World.

Rizk Mohamed El-sayed Hamouda

Dr. Rizk, specialized field is electrical Machines, his Ph.D. degree was from the University of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He made also made two M.Sc.’s at Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. In Egypt, he held several academic positions as he was the Dean of the Canadian International College and the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Head of the Electro-mechanics Department, Heliopolis University, and many more. He is a Member of Egyptian Syndicate of Professional Engineering and a Member of the Electrical Consulting Group. Plus being a member in various committees and joined many organizations as a consultant.

Dr. Mostafa specializes in power electronics, distributed and renewable generation, microgrids, power quality, custom power, electrical drives, and artificial intelligence applications in power systems.
He earned his Ph.D., degree (Electrical and Computer Engineering), from the University of Waterloo, Canada. Also made a M.Sc., degree (Electrical Power and Machines) from Ain Shams University, in Intelligent AC Drive.
Prof. Mostafa joined several universities as a consultant in Egypt, Canada and Saudi Arabia He is a reviewer for the Permanent Committee for Academic Promotion, Supreme Council of Universities, Egypt and for King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia since 2020.
In October 2022, he was listed in the world’s top 2% scientists list by Stanford University.

Dr. Hany specializes in electrical engineering, renewable energy systems, energy storage systems, smart grid, power systems control and dynamics. He earned his Ph.D., and M.Sc., degrees from Ain Shams University. He is a full professor (scientific distinguish promotion) at the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University. Dr. Hany joined many organizations as a consultant and has done numerous research papers in different fields. Furthermore, he got awarded several times as for example the superiority Egypt award for engineering sciences, and he was a member of the promotion committee for associate professors, and the professors of electrical power engineering in Egypt. Plus, he was included in a Stanford University database (USA) for the best 2% of scientists worldwide in 2020, 2021, and 2022.

He is a full professor at Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, with responsibilities of academic teaching, practical consulting, and practical training. He worked as a consultant in several places and has done numerous research papers in different fields. Furthermore, he got an award from Who Is Who Magazine.
